Description
You can use the .htaccess method using mod_rewrite as follows
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{SERVER_PORT} =80
RewriteRule ^(.*) https://%{SERVER_NAME}%{REQUEST_URI}
Any good webhost will have mod_rewrite installed and allow .htaccess files.
